It’s true, eating healthy is more expensive, it’s just the way it is.
That being the case, we’ve collated some of our favorite tips to make sure you can keep your healthy eating on track and smash your goals whatever your budget is.
Don’t Go To The Supermarket Without A Plan
The quickest and easiest way to go over your budget at the supermarket is by showing up without an ingredient list or meal plan.
This leads to just guessing what foods you want to eat, potentially being engrossed by the offers they have on foods you don’t need and adding one too many unhealthy treats to your cart.
Always make sure you are prepared with healthy meals in mind and an ingredient list that is specific to those meals. (P.S. we make custom food lists and meal plans for our Online Personal Training Clients and our Miami Personal Training Clients)
Don’t Go To The Supermarket Hungry
Going to the supermarket while you’re hungry is the next big “no no”.
Ensure you have a healthy snack beforehand or something to take around with you while you shop.
How many times have you gone to the grocery store, tried to avoid the ready made food that they have available (Pizza being the worst), told yourself that you weren’t going to buy it, and end up caving.
We’ve all done it.
When this happens you not only end up spending more on items you don’t need, you end up eating items that are not on your food list.
Show up with with a healthy meal in your stomach and you’ve won this part of the battle, it’s that simple.
Stick With Fruit And Veg That Are In Season
When particular fruits and veg are in-season, they are cheaper because they are easier to produce and can often be sourced more locally.
These will ultimately be even healthier for you too as they will have fewer preservatives in them as they won’t have been shipped as far.
Also, the in-season fruit and veggies are usually much more tasty and bigger in size which definitely makes choosing them a good choice!
Buy In Bulk
It may feel more expensive, to begin with, but if you buy can be frozen or that will stay for a longer period of time, the cost per use will be less than if you were to purchase them weekly.
This is also great as it means you can cook big batches of your favorite healthy meals for you to freeze meaning your meal prep time can also be cut down too.
Keep Your House Stocked
When your house is consistently stocked full of healthy food and prepped meals, you are less likely to go out for meals. Simple put, you won’t want those meals to go to waste.
This simple tip alone will save you HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS EACH MONTH.
Preparations is KEY!
You won’t want the food you have bought to go to waste and you will save a lot of money as even though on-the-go food seems cheap at the time, all those little expenses add up!
We hope these quick tips help you to maintain your budget and stick to your goals.
